Advanced stabilisation and macro-optimised operability deliver unprecedented control for stills and movies where focus is critical.

Up to 1.4x magnification and a 0.26 m (0.86 ft) minimum focus distance make this lens ideal for macro photography. Close-up capability with more than a 1:1 magnification ratio makes it possible to capture details and textures that are barely invisible to the naked eye in creative new ways.

Advanced optical image stabilisation is optimised for macro shooting where sharpness is critical, and a new control system achieves improved angle, shift, and depth control for precise handheld stabilisation Compatible α bodies additionally enable lens-body communication that enhances stabilisation for both stills and movies (Active Mode).

Precise focus is essential when shooting with a narrow depth of field, and this remarkable lens ensures that it is easy to achieve. After following a moving subject in AF-C mode, the MF mode can be quickly selected via the AF/MF switch and used with focus magnification to refine and finalise focus.

If focus is on the wrong subject, it can be returned to the intended subject simply by rotating the focus ring in the lens’s DMF mode. Sliding the focus ring back and forth switches between the AF/MF and FULL MF modes, with the latter providing distance and magnification scales that are ideal for macro shooting.

Linear Response MF ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually. Focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise. Linear Response MF also enables smooth, accurate manual focus shifts when shooting movies.
